The University of Saint Thomas
College
costs a lot of money Hello, my name is Sarah, and I am a freshman at The
University of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Preparing for the future, by
attending college, makes for limited spending power. So, in regards to budgeting
the few dollars that college students have, one should use some common sense.
Buying
textbooks Shop around when buying textbooks. I realize that it is easy
to go down to the campus bookstore, but you can use your computer to check the
internet. Your first trip to the campus bookstore will be an overwhelming
experience. You'll be hoping the cash register malfunctions, and charges you 50¢
for your new $99 economics book.
The smart choice is to look elsewhere
for books. By going to internet bookstores, you can save, on average, 50%. When
you go to sell your books, campus bookstores tend to give you next to nothing.
So, it makes economic sense to sell your copy of
Business in Action, for example, to another student for $50, instead of
getting just $20 from the bookstore. Both of you come out ahead.
Scholarships Apply
for every scholarship you can find. The majority of scholarships are easy to
apply for. You may be thinking that your GPA isn't good enough, but some
scholarships are purely need-based, and others are given to children of military
veterans or employers, without other qualifications.
Enjoy your
time at college Take part in all of the little perks that make you a "college
kid". My first week on campus, I bought posters for my room, and music
from iTunes for my iPod. You need to spend some money on creature comforts, and
don't forget that college sweatshirt.
Try to get good professors Check

see how your instructors are rated. Getting a good one, can make all the
difference.
