The
Grumman Wildcat and Hellcat Fighters of WWII We have 3 different
die-cast models of the Grumman Fighter for sale. These are high-quality
collectible items, that would look good on the desk or credenza of any aviation
enthusiast. The detail is excellent, the prop turns, the wheels roll, and the
wings fold, just like the real airplane.
In
late June of 1942, Grumman was engaged in the production of F4F-4 Wildcats and
had started looking towards building it's successor, the F6F-3 Hellcat. Thus a
factory was needed to relieve some of the burden felt by the Grumman facilities.
General Motors (GM) reorganized all five of it's automobile plants in order to
assist in the production of aircraft.
This reorganization was completed
by mid-1942 and the GM plants became the Eastern Aircraft Division of the
General Motors Corporation. Eastern's Linden, New Jersey plant became
responsible for the production of the F4F-4 designated as FM-1 Wildcat.
The FM-1 Wildcat with folding wings contained the Atlantic anti-submarine
camouflage scheme color of Non-Specular Dark Gray on top of Non-Specular
Insignia White. The aircraft's numbers were painted Non-Specular Black.
By
the end of 1942 twenty-one FM-1's had been delivered and their production was
increasing rapidly.
We offer high-quality collectible items at excellent prices. I hope
you'll take a few minutes and see what we have for sale by clicking
