I've
always loved the thought of finding hidden treasure. When I was young, I dreamed
of finding the proverbial treasure chest, complete with ancient gold coins and
other booty. I could imagine the thrill of discovery as I brushed the dust of
the years from the lid and slowly opened it to reveal its secrets.
I
don't remember how old I was when I realized that the world supply of treasure
chests was running dangerously low, and if I wanted to keep questing after lost
valuables, I probably should change the object of my daydreams to something more
practical. Something that still really exists, but has been secreted from view
for years and years. It should be something with great value to a small group of
people but not to the mass of the population, thus insuring that numbers of
these treasures still wait to be discovered by someone who understands their
worth. It should be something that I know about, something that I like, and
something I find exciting.
It should be something like, well, old
airplanes!
